Description
This decimal place value game will engage your 4th and 5th grade students as they practice place value and decimal skills. Over the course of the game, students add and subtract decimals using manipulatives as they race to one whole. Students will improve their mental math skills and increase their place value and decimal understanding all while having fun and learning!
How To Play
- Students take turns choosing a game card that will direct them to add or subtract 0, 0.1 or 0.01 to or from their game board.
- Students will place manipulatives (base ten blocks) on their game board as they play and will also use math language to describe their board as the game progresses.
- In the case that a student has ten of a given unit they will bundle them together and trade them in for the next unit up. For example, if they have ten hundredths, they will trade them in for a tenth. If they have ten tenths, they will trade them in for 1… and win!
The game is simple to learn, fun to play and provides a great deal of decimal place value practice!

Originally reviewed on TPTJust as Race to 100 helped my younger students understand place value of whole numbers, this game is helping my 4th graders understand how the different decimal place values work together.
