Description

Your students are sure to be engrossed in this Thanksgiving math activity for elapsed time. Students will practice determining elapsed time to the nearest minute as they determine the running time of each participant in the Turkey Trot 5K!

How fast was Tom Turkey?

Did Carol Cranberry grab 1st place in the 40+ age range?

Who won the Turkey Trot 5K?

This is a really fun low-prep activity that cleverly disguises a TON of practice with elapsed time to the nearest minute (all results under 1 hour)!

In terms of format, you have many choices for this activity.

  • Hang the cards around the room and have students work their way through the runners as a math center.
  • Project the cards onto a whiteboard and complete the activity whole group.
  • Choose 1 card each day and complete the activity for morning work as a class over the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving.
  • Laminate all cards and put them onto a binder ring. Students can grab the whole activity and complete it at their own pace.

A word problem bonus activity has also been included. Your students can write their own word problems that can be solved by examining the results of the Turkey Trot 5K.

And remember, follow my store so you will be updated when new resources are added! I list many products on sale for the first 24 hours!
